A challenge Paul gave Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:1-2 is a good challenge for us in 2023. Paul wrote,
You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
In our day, the social justice movement within evangelicalism is promoting as “a different gospel” and is deceiving many. It is a forgery, a worthless and woefully lacking imitation of the real thing.
Responding to these realities, we must “be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” and pass along the authentic gospel we have received from those who faithfully passed it along to us. In turn, we must “commit these [things — this Good News — ] “to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” Yet we must not be naïve; we cannot afford to assume that merely presenting the gospel is enough to effectively combat false ideas. We also must take the initiative to point out why false ideas are false and why they don’t align with the truth. See the Book of Jude, which is dedicated to this very thing.
Just what is wrong with the social justice movement (SJM) and the social justice gospel? I will not sugarcoat anything here. I’m all about giving you the unvarnished truth, but in ways that you will receive it, or at least consider it. The SJM is promoting lies. I would encourage you to watch the film Enemies within the Church. Among the lies that it is promoting in evangelical circles is the social justice “gospel,” which is a counterfeit gospel, a forgery!
