Critical theory teaches that moral authority belongs to the oppressed. Therefore, whatever those deemed to be oppressed say and do is, in the eyes of social justice crusaders, always right. This is an arbitrary standard of good and evil that doesn’t square with reality. Authentic justice can never prevail if good and evil rest on a subjective foundation.
The prophet Isaiah rightly declared,
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isa. 5:20).
Throughout Scripture, good and evil are assumed to be absolute, objective, fixed, unalterable, and applicable to all. God has ultimate moral authority! The Ten Commandments aren’t subjective opinions, but guidelines grounded in the reality of a God who exists and who is holy and just.
The social justice movement is wrong about good and evil. Its assessment will only exacerbate problems, but returning to biblical standards ultimately will help foster ordered liberty.
