In a Colson Center video titled “What would you say [if someone said] critical theory is biblical?” Joseph Backholm states, “In critical theory, the degree to which you are oppressed determines your level of moral authority.”

To combat the false gospel of social justice, biblical Christians must thoroughly understand this — including just how intensely leftists believe it to be true. In Understanding the Faith, Summit Ministries president Jeff Myers writes, “In universities today, Marx’s ideas have spread beyond economics to literature, sociology, and philosophy. Neo-Marxists teach that those in power always manage government and culture in a way that serves their own interests and marginalizes others.” Then Myers says this: “Evil is whatever those in power do; good is whatever those who Neo-Marxists judge to be oppressed do.”1
Next time we’ll talk about some ominous implications of this idea.
